A Bit of our story

Founder Brooke Scatchard on a Fat Bike Ski in Colorado

Many years of PERSISTENCE brought us here

Fat Bike Skis was founded to bring a concept with huge potential to riders interested in adding a new element to their winter experience.  Brooke Scatchard created his original design and prototype 18 years ago in high school metal shop and successfully applied for a patent.  The early versions showed promise, but pre-fat bikes, their use was more limited by conditions than today's fat bikes.

After making countless prototypes to evolve the design over the years, along with advances in fat bikes and tires, we have finally achieved the level of performance that Brooke always knew was possible.  The current patented design incorporates everything learned over the years into a 100% custom designed and purpose built Fat Bike Ski.

Our development team is led by Brooke and includes a few key professionals contributing their expertise to the process of creating a refined and versatile product.   With input from Engineers Keith Epstein and Tom Doyle, Industrial Designer Paul Henninge, master frame builder Frank "the Welder" Wadelton, machinist Zach Jewett, and web guru Dan Kirk, we are proud to bring you the world’s most capable and sophisticated ski attachment for bikes.

If you’ve ever seen a Fat Bike Ski in person, you’ve undoubtedly met either Brooke or Mariah Keagy.  Brooke and Mariah design and build mountain bike and multi-use trails with their company Sinuosity: Flowing Trails from their home in northern Vermont, allowing them to work on Fat Bike Skis in the winter.  Now that Fat Bike Skis have made it into production, the team will be growing to support year-round operations and worldwide distribution. We’re thrilled to be at this point and can’t wait to share our passion for bikes on snow with you all.

Pretty much the most fun you can have on a bike!
